JEANNINE OAKLEY (nee FREDETTE) It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and friend "The Leader of our Pack". Jan died on Saturday, June 7, 2003 with her husband, daughter and dearest friend Lil by her side. She was born on September 23, 1937 in St. Jean-Baptiste where she lived until early childhood. She then moved to St. Vital and at age 16 met Don and was married at age 18. Jan worked at various places throughout her life but landed a job with Genevieve Holdings, later known as Arnold Portugal Investments in the mid 70s. A job she thoroughly enjoyed and did until she retired ten years ago. Throughout her life she was an avid volunteer, at various organizations such as St. Amant Centre, Winnipeg Canoe Club and Christ the King Church. Mom had enjoyed travelling throughout her life and since retiring had congregated every winter to Canyon Lakes, TX where she and Don would meet up with their fellow Snow Birds. Mom was often heard saying "life is for the living" and that is exactly what she did. She was vivacious, had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that came straight from her soul. She loved to entertain and cook for people. She had an undying giving nature and was always the first to lend a hand or an ear. She was wise from her life experiences and had no regrets. She is survived by her husband Don, daughter Louise, in-laws, Lynne and Les, Ted and Gerry and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Edouard Fredette, mother Ida Fredette, twin brother Leo, special son Kevin and grandcat Bjorn. Don and Louise would like to extend their warmest gratitude to all of their family and friends who have shown an outpouring of love and support for Mom during this most difficult time. We are truly loved. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11 in the Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 847 St. Marys Rd., with a reception to follow in the parish hall. We would also like to thank the staff at the Victoria Oncology Unit, St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and Dr. Whittaker for their incredible care and attention given to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oncology Unit at Victoria General Hospital. We watched you suffer We watched you sigh But all we could do was just stand by. When the time came We suffered too. You never deserved what You went through. God took your hand We had to part. He eased your paid But broke our hearts. If you could have spoken Before you died, these words Were sure youd have replied!! This life for me has truly passed. I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take And love each other for my sake. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949 or toll free 1-888-233-4949.
